Laguna Verde Guest House

Laguna Verde Guest House, is located at Apaneca or Cuyanausul Range. This is an amazing volcanic mountain range which stretches througout western El Salvador between the Santa Ana complex and the Guatemala border. We are situated just 3 km.from Apaneca.

Apaneca is the highest elevated village in the country (1,466 mt. 4,800 ft) and famous for its cool climate and winds. The origin of the name Apaneca comes from the indigenous language Nahuat and means "river of winds". The fertile volcanic soil and altitude make this, one of the best areas for coffee cultivation in the country.

Due to the altitude the weather is very pleasant all year round and the vegetation and natural scenery is extraordinary.

Have you ever spent the night at the rim of a volcano crater ?
This is truly an amazing experience !. Our dome shaped house is located at the border of an ancient, deep, secondary crater with vertical walls, the "Cuajusto" extinct crater. In ancient Nahuat language "Cuajusto" means “cave of serpents”. From here you can catch some impressive panoramic views and do hikes to the nearby Laguna Verde and other natural beauties.

Laguna Verde or Green lagoon is a crater lake of exceptional beauty. The lake is surrounded by cypress forest and is an excellent place for hikes, birdwatching, and orchid watching. Numerous fumarole fields are located on the northern flank of the range, and the Ahuachapán geothermal power plant is producing 29% of the nation's electricity energy consumption. El Salvador is the world´s 7th place in geotermal power production.

The hotel is surrounded by gardens and there are 260 acres of cypress and coffee plantations perfect for hiking and birdwatching.

Our staff strives to make you feel at home and give tourist information on subjects from bus routes, and interesting places to visit around the area. We produce our own coffee and honey and you are also invited to observe the process.

Our dome house makes it a perfect place to relax and study or use as a base camp for traveling to Ruta de Las Flores.
